Now that Memorial Day is kickin’ it in the rear view window, we can officially welcome SUMMER with both open arms and of course open toed sandals. Summer means beaches, pools, parks, lazy days, and a whole new set of clothing that will help you keep cool while out in the blazing hot sun. Although if you are going to be staying out in the hot sun all day every day, then you need to make sure you have a cool home to return to. You may find it useful to check out some of the air conditioning Brisbane options that are available. If you’re like 99% of us than that means you’re on a budget which means buying a whole new summer wardrobe is out of the question so thankfully its super easy to refresh your summer style without killing your savings account. Here are my steps to keeping your summer wardrobe chic, bright, and affordable.
1. Stay Caffeinated: This might seem like an odd step but trust me digging through and organizing your summer wardrobe takes time and energy which means you’ll need to be able to keep going. A great way to keep the energy up while staying in budget is with the Bottled Starbucks® Iced Coffee bottled drinks. Each four-pack has a suggested retail price of $4.99/$5.99 so keeping a few of these in the fridge to help keep your summer wardrobe refresh party going is no issue. Just remember, some of your friends may be lactose intolerant, which means that they wouldn’t be able to enjoy coffee as easily as everyone else. But that doesn’t mean that they should have to miss out. Meet JoeFroyo. You can now stock your fridge with cold lactose free and gluten free coffee drinks, so everyone can stay caffeinated this summer. There are many options as to how you can get your coffee. If you wanted to actually buy a coffee machine, wesbites such as https://www.coffeebitz.com/which-coffee-machine-should-i-buy-the-ultimate-guide/ can help advice you as to which machine you should buy.
2. Sort, Sort, Sort: This step (after coffee) might just be the most important. You need to carefully sort your current summer wardrobe into categories like KEEP, MEND, DONATE, and TRASH. The “Keep” pile should include everything that is still in good shape i.e. no tears, non-purpose holes, etc and should still fit, while the “Mend” pile are items that are in decent shape but might need a button replaced or a hem let-out. It is a lot more cost effective to mend certain items then buy brand new one plus bonus points if you can mend them yourself. Also remember that your shoes can be mended by taking them to your local cobbler. Your “Donate” pile should include anything that is still in good shape but no longer fits including shoes, swimwear, etc (but no undergarments), just remember to wash all clothing before dropping them off at the donation center of your choice. The “Trash” pile is anything that is just too gone to save or donate.
3. Hand Washing vs.The Machine: One thing we suggest is to hand wash anything that has been in storage for the last few months. If you’ve never hand washed before you’ll need two clean basins (never your kitchen sink, ew), room temperature water, a drying rack (or you can always use your shower curtain rod), and a mild detergent. Start by taking a few of your garments and soaking them for about 20-minutes in your water + detergent mixture basin, once this step is done move the move to the clean water basin to rinse out, then hang them up to dry. Empty the both water basins and start again. This process take a while but you’ll find you’re clothes are in much better shape (and will stay that way longer) then if you just threw them into the machine. Bonus Tip: Always wash your undergarments by hand, they will last longer which saves you money in the long run.
4. Stock Up on Basics. After sorting, mending, and washing you will most likely find that there are still a few holes to fill in your wardrobe. This is when you stock up on summer basics. Some of our favorites are maxi dresses and skits, tank tops, t-shirts, and flat sandals. Use these basics to fill in where necessary and we like to suggest getting your basics is solid colors. They will stay in trend longer and can easily be mixed with some more current trend pieces and prints.
Now that your wardrobe is summer ready, we’ll see you at the beach!
