I am a musical theatre junkie, I like to say I was raised on showtunes and 70’s music. I am also a Disney nerd having grown up watching ALL the animated (and non-animated) classics. So when I was offered the chance to go see Aladdin on Broadway with the folks from Disney Style you know I was all about that like Abu finding a pile of gold.
The last Disney musical I saw on Broadway was The Little Mermaid as I sadly missed out on seeing Mary Poppins and Aladdin has been on my must-see list for a while now (right below Hamilton). I grabbed my fellow Disney movie lover Nicole and we hit the Great White Way in pure Disney style. Not only were we given VIP passes and AMAZING seats but we were also treated to a private reception during intermission. It was a night fit a for a [Disney] Princess.
The real treat, for me at least, came after the final bow as we got a chance to hang with the cast and crew. There are so many costume changes in this musical it’s mind blowing, especially during the song “Prince Ali”. I also chatted with the hair and makeup girls who dished that even though Genie is covered in glitter it is Jafar’s makeup that takes the longest due to his ultra-define brows. Also, girls if we want to keep our makeup in place like the Broadway pros apparently we need to be using the Kryolan Setting Spray.
Then I got to meet a freaking Disney Princess aka Courtney Reed who plays Jasmine in the show. She is super sweet and she also has a KILLER choker line, Gagged Chokers, that if you are a lover of the revived trend, you need to check it out.
All in all it was a great night and if you are a hardcore Disney fan (or just a mild Disney fan, if those exist) then head over to the New Amsterdam theatre to check out this amazing show and the even more amazing cast. A big thank you to the amazing folks at Disney Style for the amazing night.
