It is a long standing rule that one should never arrive to a party empty handed. A hostess gift doesn’t have to be super expensive but it does need to have a level of luxury to it so your hosts know that you recognize the hard work they put into making their home the perfect setting for a Holiday soirée.
Here are some of my host/hostess gift ideas that are all below $50.
1. Piper-Heidsieck Light Box with Brut Cuvee ($40). Champagne is always an acceptable gift and this set from Piper-Heidsieck goes above and beyond by with some multi-functional packaging. Just place the bottle of bubbly in the fridge for a few hours, when its time to head out just remove and place it back in the festive box as it will keep it nice and chill for you. Your host can then take the box’s lid, flip it upside down and place a candle it in to get a fun light box effect. This is a gift that is sure to please. Available at fine wine retailers nationwide.
2. NEST Fragrances Holiday Candle ($34). Scented candles (like Champagne) are an always popular gift and the NEST Fragrances Holiday Candle is one of my personal favorites. Why? Quite simply, it will make your host’s house smell like Christmas (or whatever Holiday is being celebrated) using a blend of pomegranate, Mandarin orange, pine, cloves and cinnamon with a hint of vanilla and amber. The classic candle sells for $34 while a votive goes for $14.
3. Vogue: The Covers ($35). If your host is fashion minded then this coffee table book is the perfect gift. A collection of over 300 of the fashion-forward Vogue magazine covers are highlighted in this book. Featuring the work of influential artists—Helmut Newton, Irving Penn, Richard Avedon, Bruce Weber, Herb Ritts, Steven Meisel, Annie Leibovitz, and Mario Testino, this book spans 120 years of high fashion.
4. Jeremiah Weed Strangely Delicious Whiskies ($18.99). What if the host likes whiskey or bourbon? Well I’ve got just the recommendation for you, the new Strangely Delicious Whiskies from Jeremiah Weed. These whiskies come in three different flavors: spiced, sarsaparilla (think old school root beer), and cinnamon. While the spiced flavor is best consumed with a cola, the sarsaparilla and cinnamon are best done in shot form with the later being similar to Fireball whiskey in taste. You can find these fun, flavored whiskies at liquor stores nationwide.
